Is Nomi AI safe? No end-to-end encryption and unclear chat retention

Is Nomi AI safe? According to its public documents, the service has an identified operator in the US, a clear cancellation path and account deletion you can do yourself. It also has open points: there is no end-to-end encryption, you cannot opt out of chats being used for training, and the retention period for conversations is not published. Is Nomi AI legit? The short answer

Short answer: Nomi AI is not an anonymous or abandoned app, but it does not offer some guarantees that other services do. What you can confirm is the company behind it, its recent activity and its payment rules. What is missing is detail on privacy and billing.

The operator is Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland corporation (USA) with an address in Baltimore. The Terms name the company as the owner of the platform, and it also appears in the Privacy Policy and the complaints policy. The CEO, Alex Cardinell, was named by MIT Technology Review (06 Feb 2025) and TechCrunch (03 Apr 2024). According to TechCrunch, the company had no venture capital and 8 employees at that time. That number has not been updated.

On activity: the Google Play app was updated on 17 Oct 2026, and the Privacy Policy is dated 27 Apr 2026. There is no report of closure, bankruptcy or sale of the company as of the check date.

As for user opinion, Trustpilot (checked 27 Oct 2026) shows a 2.3 out of 5 rating from 42 reviews, with a profile not confirmed by the company and no replies from it. Praise centers on memory, natural conversations, a simple interface and price. Complaints mention unanswered refund requests, trouble deleting an account or canceling, strict filters, weak images and conversations that get worse over time. On Reddit, topics include service instability, update notes and privacy debates. These are third-party impressions, not our conclusion.

Privacy: what Nomi AI does with your data

According to the Privacy Policy, the service collects the email from Google or Apple sign-in (including a private relay email), a name or nickname, date of birth, the content you write, payment data (only when you subscribe), IP address and device data. The company says it does not sell or rent personal data. Persistent cookies, according to the document, are not used.

Points worth attention:

• No end-to-end encryption. The document states this. On Google Play, the Data safety section mentions encryption in transit.
• Training on chats. The service's wiki says Nomis learn from conversations in aggregate, without personal data, also using thumbs-up and thumbs-down votes. The Terms (section 7) give the company a broad, irrevocable license over what you send and receive. No opt-out is described.
• Retention. While the account is active, the storage period for conversations is not published.
• Data controller country. United States. The policy does not name a representative in the European Union.

To delete your account: Profile, Account Settings, Delete account at the bottom, email confirmation, then type DELETE. Personal data is removed about 28 days after confirmation. Anything in the training archives may remain, but no longer linked to you. Deleting a single Nomi or a media file does not clear the whole history; only deleting the account does that.

What shows up on your card statement

The name that appears on the statement is not published. There is also no official information on how discreet the charge is. If that matters to you, check the entry in your bank app after the purchase.

On the web, payment is by Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover card (Terms, section 13), charged in US dollars. Your bank may charge conversion fees and IOF on a foreign-currency purchase, but no rate is published here. Pix, PayPal and cryptocurrency: not published. The web payment provider is not disclosed either.

On the App Store and Google Play, the price and currency come from the store. On the Brazilian App Store, Standard is listed at R$ 79.90 per month, with taxes. The reais converted elsewhere on the site are estimates using the ECB rate of 22 Oct 2026, without taxes, and your bank may add IOF. The other plans are on the Nomi AI pricing page.

It is worth comparing the monthly and yearly plans, keeping in mind that the subscription renews automatically if you do not cancel before the end of the period.

Safety, moderation and age verification

The service is for adults 18 and over only (Terms, section 4). The Terms carry general prohibitions: illegal use, harassment and planning harm to others. In Brazil, the ClassInd rating is 18.

Age verification is weak. At sign-up you enter your date of birth and log in with Google or Apple. The Terms say the company intends to adopt additional measures and block accounts suspected of belonging to minors. In a stream on 06 May 2026, the CEO said the full process works in only one country and one state, without naming which. Verification by document or selfie is not officially described.

Public records, with dates:

• 16 Oct 2025: Australia's eSafety Commissioner sent mandatory requests to four companion services, including Glimpse.AI (Nomi). The date comes from search results; the official page did not load.
• 23 and 24 Mar 2026: eSafety published a report, read in a copy of the release. According to it, Nomi relied on self-declared age or app store rating and committed to adopting more age verification. The text also says that during the period there was no dedicated trust and safety and moderation staff, and that users showing signs of self-harm were not referred to crisis services.
• 06 Feb 2025: MIT Technology Review described a case in which a Nomi chatbot gave a user self-harm instructions.

In California there is a protocol under law SB-243 with help links when risk signs appear. In New York, the CEO said on 03 Jun 2026 that showing mental health support resources is mandatory. If you are not doing well, look for human help, not a chatbot.

Payment and how to cancel Nomi AI

To cancel Nomi AI on the web or in the app: Profile icon, Subscription tab, Manage Subscription and, at the bottom, Cancel Subscription. If the system tells you to cancel through the store, do it there.

• iPhone: Settings, your name (Apple ID), Subscriptions, Nomi, Cancel Subscription.
• Android: Google Play, profile, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, Nomi, Cancel subscription.

Cancel before the renewal date. Deleting the app does not cancel anything. Access continues until the end of the paid period, and then the plan drops to the free one. The free plan starts without a card, with daily message and image limits; the number of messages per day is not published.

Refunds: under the Terms (section 13), payments are non-refundable except in cases expressly stated in the Terms. They do not refund for non-use, dissatisfaction, buyer's remorse, partial months or plan downgrades. A partial or full refund is possible at the company's discretion, with requests sent to [email protected]. The deadline for asking, the rule for store purchases and the 14-day EU right of withdrawal are not described.

Scams and fake apps

The official address is nomi.ai, and the web version is at beta.nomi.ai. There is also a PWA as an alternative to the app, plus apps for iOS and Android. On Google Play, the developer is Nomi.ai and the package is ai.nomi.twa. On the App Store, the seller appears as AI GLIMPSE INC.

Download only from the official stores, or open the site by typing the address. Do not install an APK from an unknown site: there is no way to know what was altered, and your data and card are exposed. Be wary of links received in messages and of pages that ask for a card before any login.
